SW: Hi Siyanah! Can you tell us a little about yourself? What are some things you love to do besides sports?
Siyanah: My name is Siyanah Almaaz, I'm 14 years old and from SouthWest Sydney. When I'm not playing sport, I like to hang out with my friends.
SW: What's your favourite sport?
Siyanah: Rugby league.
SW: That's great. so how did you get started in rugby league? Do you remember the first time you tried it?
Siyanah: I started in PSSA, during primary school, and then realised that I really liked it, so I joined a local club.
SW: How old were you when you started playing? And did you start off playing with the boys?
Siyanah: I think I was 12, and yes I started by playing in a mixed team with mostly boys, until under 13s and moved over to a girl's competition.
SW: What do you love most about playing league?
Siyanah: Having my friends and family come and watch me play, and learning to become a better player.
SW: Great! And what's the proudest moment you've had so far playing?
Siyanah: Probably being picked to play for Sydney South West.
SW: Do you have any big goals or dreams that you're working towards in league?
Siyanah: To maybe make it to the women's NRL.
SW: That's excellent. How do you keep self motivated about training on the days that you don't really feel like going?
Siyanah: I remind myself that at the end of the day, all the effort and hard work will pay off.
SW: When you're not training or playing, what do you do for fun and relaxation?
Siyanah: Have sleepovers with my friends or watch Netflix.
SW: Nice. So, how does it feel to have a collection inspired by you and your achievements in sport?
Siyanah: It makes me feel really good and proud.
SW: Who inspires you the most, either in sport or in your life?
Siyanah: Stephen Crichton in sport, and my dad.
SW: What advice would you give to someone your age or younger, who's just starting out in rugby league?
Siyanah: It might be like rough at the start, but keep pushing. Achieve what you want to achieve.
Quick fire questions...
SW: Slides or joggers?
Siyanah: Joggers.
SW: Hoodie or crop top?
Siyanah: Hoodie.
SW: Morning or evening training?
Siyanah: Evening training.
SW: If you could train or play anywhere in the world, where will it be?
Siyanah: Probably Samoa.
SW: Nice. What does it mean to be the first Scarlett Wednesday girl of the moment?
Siyanah: You know, feels special because not many other girls have this type of opportunity.
SW: What message would you like to share to other girls who would look up to you?
Siyanah: God, put that dream in your head for a reason. So keep chasing guys.
